I gave a talk on social media at a big industry function last night (Packaging Council of Australia).
It seemed to go pretty well. Phewww! I love it when a plan comes together!
Today I got a call out of the blue.
A "mature gent" - his words - had kindly taken the time to phone and tell me how much he enjoyed the presentation.
Thank you Simon for your kind words. They were much appreciated.
Two lessons I learnt from that phone call.
ONE: In today's hyper-connected market, a simple thing like a phone call - especially one that is unexpected - can be a particularly powerful tool. I think we tend to forget that sometimes. We shouldn't. Ever.
TWO: Even though some of us have been immersed in the social media space for some time, there are many, many others who haven't. This perspective should never be ridiculed but rather, encouraged and nurtured. I hope I do that. Apologies if sometimes, in my enthusiasm, I forget to :)
Back to basics.
Empathy.
Both very important lessons. Both very much part of the 'social media ethos'.
Thank you. It's been a good week.
